Earendel
Known as Earendel, this star was actually discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope. It has taken 12.9 billion years for Earendel’s light to reach Earth which means it appears as it was close to the Big Bang! .
Gravitational lensing was used to discover Earendel and is used for many other deep space bodies. The gravity of a massive foreground object acts like a lens as it warps the fabric of space and time, bending and brightening light from a more distant body as that light passes by.
youth have a right to be educated about the world regardless of what their parents/caretakers believe. youth have a right to learn accurate information about the world for themselves, including information that allows them to disagree with their parents/caretakers. we have got to destroy this mindset that everyone under 18 is essentially sentient playdough for parents to mold however they want and its violating “parent’s rights” to allow their children to be educated on basic facts of the world (like that queer people exist or that america is founded on genocide) because it would mean they lose the slightest bit of control over their child’s reality. imo schools have a moral responsibility to protect youth’s right to knowledge and freedom of thought over their parent’s “right” to control everything they know. your children should be allowed to fucking disagree with you, and restricting their access to knowledge in order to prevent that is abuse.

medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
thousands are still missing
an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.
hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.

As a feminist re-interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid (loosely connected), inspired by the director’s experiences as well, the film contains underlying commentaries on the exploitation of women, the Madonna-whore complex, and misogyny. In a lush visceral Lynchian realm in Warsaw, femininity shows an animalistic side. Since the angelic voice of mermaids was meant to be a way of luring men into water so they can be eaten, in the first place, eventually Gold, one of the mermaids, becomes thirsty for human blood, which causes a conflict between the sisters.
